Powerhouse Arts Portfolio
Back and forth
Hand-painted wood mobile using acrylic, stencil, and text. The words "Release" and "Hold" appear across panels — same three-color triad, different layering orders — exploring how sequence changes feeling. As the mobile turns, the words can be read as "Release, Hold" or "Hold, Release" — the meaning shifts with the movement. The shape shifts in scale, creating visual rhythm. Photographed and animated in Photoshop as a looping GIF. Mobile can hang indoors or outdoors.
Lines and Shapes Around Me
Hand-painted gestural line animation made with acrylic and watercolor. Created with Parsons students as a component of a self-portrait project. Students painted frames capturing simple movements, integrated the painted squares into their collages, and learned Photoshop basics — crop, transform, and animation timeline — to create looping GIFs.
Our Movement and Our Stillness
Collaborative animation made with linocut relief print and watercolor. Workshop participants explored opposites — movement and stillness — carving and printing their own frames. The group sequenced individual prints into a collective animation, showing how personal gestures become shared rhythm.
Our ideas can make sense and not make sense at the same time.
Relief prints combining text and imagery. Inspired by Bread and Puppet Theater. Workshop participants each chose one word — ALMOST, TIME, LOVE, STILL — and explored how simple words and bold color communicate directly.
Power is a River
Animation combining handwritten text and abstract video. Participants explored a single word — "power" — through short poems, layered with kaleidoscopic video feedback. The animation moves between different versions, showing how one word can hold many meanings.
